What is a Tens Unit?

TENS stands for (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation). which are predominately used for nerve related pain conditions (acute and chronic conditions). TENS machines works by sending stimulating pulses across the surface of the skin and along the nerve strands.

The stimulating pulses help prevent pain signals from reaching the brain.Tens devices also help stimulate your body to produce higher levels of its own natural painkillers, called Endorphins.

How do TENS machines work?

* Transcutaneous - means through the skin.
* Electrical - TENS machines deliver small electrical pulses to the body via electrodes * placed on the skin. TENS machines are thought to affect the way pain signals are sent to the brain.
* Nerve - pain signals reach the brain via nerves and the spinal cord.
* Stimulation - if pain signals can be blocked by the tiny electrical shocks from the TENS machine then the brain will receive fewer signals from the source of the pain.
